Truestone is a Colorado nonprofit. Discerning AI is the name on the free classes, guides and handouts we bring to families. Here’s the work we do all week so your family doesn’t have to.

Why we do this

Three reasons, and none of them are complicated.

The fakes got goodThe bad spelling and the strange pauses used to give a scam away. That’s over. What’s coming at your family now sounds like your family.
Nobody teaches this at homeWe teach our kids about seat belts and strangers. Then we stop, and nobody warns them that an AI will lie with a straight face, agree with everything they say, and keep acting like a friend until they trust it. That lesson is missing at the kitchen table. It’s the one we bring.
It costs more than the moneyThe dollars are the part that gets reported. The rest is a grandmother who stops answering her phone, a son who blames himself for not calling more, and savings that were meant to last twenty years. Money sent by wire, gift card or crypto is the hardest to get back.

How this started

We watched a television story about a boy and a chatbot, and it broke our hearts. Then it stopped being a story on a screen. Families in our own circle sat down with us and told us what a chatbot had been saying to their kids, even blackmail. Our family members being taken by scams. All of this is happening around us, to people we know by name, and most of the help out there is written for somebody else. So we built Truestone. We would rather be the neighbors who show up with something useful than the ones who say somebody ought to do something.

Print one and leave it where everybody eats. They go better out loud than alone. Ask your kids what they’d do if a voice on the phone sounded exactly like you, then listen all the way through the answer before you correct any of it. Nobody has to be in trouble for it to count.

The guides are free. Writing them is not.

Truestone runs on gifts. A gift pays for the next pages: writing them, checking every number against the agency that published it, and keeping them free for anybody who needs one. No sign-up, nothing to buy, no list to join.
